The office for National Statistics has provided a breakdown by age of who died "with" COVID-19 in week ending 2020-03-20, together with a breakdown of the population in England and Wales. It shows for example:

  • people aged 85 or older represent 2% of the population but 44% of those who have died from COVID-19.

  • people older than 70 are 8% of the population but 74% of those who have died from COVID-19.

  • people older than 65 are 18% of the population but 93% of those who have died from COVID-19.
