As shown by the above from Public Health England, chart, all cause mortality this year in England is better this year than the winters of 2016/17 and 2017/18.

They also report:

  • GP in Hours (GPIH) consultations for influenza-like illness (ILI) are decreasing and similar to baseline levels.

  • GP Out of Hours (GPOOH) contacts for ILI and difficulty breathing increased further. Increases were noted across all age groups and remain highest in the 15-44 and 45-64 year olds.

  • NHS 111 calls for cold/flu were below baseline levels, however this datashould be treated with caution due to the recent change in guidance on where the public shouldseek health care and changes in coding.

  • Emergency Department attendances for ILI decreased however attendances for pneumoniaincrease
